For all those who have an Intel Mac with no Superdrive (The AirBook) or simply a broken drive, don’t panic. There are a few way to upgrade. You will need to borrow a friends Superdrive / DVD player first.

1. Buy the Upgrade DVD

2. Find a USB drive that has at least 8.2GB of free space, or an external Hard Drive. If using an External Hard Drive I suggest you partition a 10GB slot for this.

3. Connect the USB Drive or External Hard drive to a Mac with a working Superdrive

4. Open Finder > Applications >  Utilities > Disk Utility

Disk Utility

Disk Utility

5. Insert the Snow Leopard Disk

6. Click the Snow Leopard Disk, choose ‘Restore’ tab, drag the Snow Leopard DVD to the Source box

7. Drag your USB or External Hard Drive to the Destination

8. Hit Restore, sit back and wait.

9. Once the restore is complete, unmount the USB or External Hard Drive, mount it on the Mac with no Superdrive.

10. Open the file image and install Snow Leopard.

What I would not suggest is installing from another Mac over a wireless connection and a shared Superdrive. Yes, someone told me they actually tried it that way…..
