Twitter – Using Twitter to resolve bad press

Twitter is great. I joined quite a while ago but only now am I beginning to see the sure power of the system. I have two accounts, one for me (@smoothape) and the other for work, which I will not list here as it is for work and I keep the two entirely separate.

So how do I use Twitter?.

For work I take all the RSS feeds such as blog articles, press releases, news, etc. and post it to the Twitter account. All automated of course. Great, but that is just pushing, same old same old when it comes to marketing a product. The beauty and power in twitter lies in the ability to listen to, and join in the conversation. The search is powerful, use it, find possible friends, check out their friends list, read their tweets, answer questions. Most importantly, find out if there are tweets about you, your product or your company. Answer those questions. Good or bad, answer them and right away.

No such thing as bad press? True, but it all depends on how you handle the bad press. On twitter is may be a complaint. You may find it hard to ‘tear a new one’ when only using 140 characters, so it can’t be all bad. Talk to the Tweeter, ask them to elaborate and offer a solution to the problem or pass it to someone who can and remember to follow the solution to the end. Who knows, maybe they will retweet with something favorable next time.
