A few tips for new Mac users, and the ones who have had a mac for a while and just have not read the manual.

First, some info: What is the APPLE KEY?

Easy one: see Image below.

Apple Key

Apple Key

1. Quit. – Quitting Applications is not automatic, so APPLE KEY + TAB will show open apps. APPLE + TAB a few times to get to an app you want to close, then APPLE + Q. The application will then quit, freeing memory = faster computer

2. Stop with the Widgets

Dashboard Widgets

Dashboard Widgets

Yes, great idea since Tiger, but they hog memory. Keep the essentials only.

3. Apple Updates – designed to make your OS run smoother – Set update to run at least weekly. Click the Apple Icon from the Menu on the top left, Choose Software Update.

4. Maintenance scripts / Repairs / Cache – Now #4 can cause a few issues.

First – Sometimes the auto scripts don’t work.

So rather than describe how to preform repairs, clear cache etc., just find a program to do this for you. Everyone has a favorite, I use

more later.
